Fragment 9 - Getting found online

Search Engine Optimation or SEO is marketing through understanding how search algoritms work combined with a knowledge of what people are looking for. My goal was that potential employers would find me when they were looking for a product manager in telecommunications.

Obviously Google is rating search results according to match with search words. At Ecademy it is possible do define words that Google will search for. I defined telecommunications, telco, mobile, wireless, product management, product development. This way my profile may come up if somebody is googeling parts of my name combined with one of these words.

At Google there is a short description of the site found. At Ecademy it is possible define the phrase in that Google will show. I defined that phrase, and if people are googeling my name this is what will come up under Ecademy: Telco professional with a long experience with product management/development in the mobile industry. Proven record in voice and data products for the residential and the business market. This short description also enhances the possibility of being found online.

The Google search results also depend on the activity on the web site, in my case my online profiles. I tried to enhance the traffic on my sites by blogging, especially at Ecademy. Here I was posting blog entries and I was commenting on other peoples blogs. The idea was that people who read my blog-entry would tend to look up my online profile, and this way improve my Google ratings. Perhaps you also got chrious and want to look up my my profiles at Linkedin, xing, Ecademy and Plaxo after having read this blog. This would improve my Google search results.
